Percentage Change Calculator (Increase or Decrease)

Enter a starting value and a final value to see the rise or fall in percent, the gap between them and the multiplier.

Formula

Change (%) = (Final − Initial) / |Initial| × 100

Worked example

A price goes from 80 to 100: (100 − 80) / 80 × 100 = +25%. The multiplier is 1.25.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage increase?

Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100.

Why is a 50% fall not undone by a 50% rise?

Because each percentage applies to a different base. 100 falls 50% to 50, then rises 50% to only 75.

What is the difference between percent and percentage points?

A rate going from 2% to 3% rises by 1 percentage point, but by 50% in relative terms.
